How to Hire the Right Photographer
If your photos didn’t turn out well, here are a few tips on what to look for in hiring a professional photographer. Look for these simple cues:
They Focus On You
They ask about your line of work, personal brand (your personality, etc.) and what you want to convey through your photos. What would success look like to you?
They Focus On Your End Goal
They’ll identify how your photos will be used; some companies have strict brand guidelines for headshots and business portraits, others don’t. If your images will be used on your own website, your photographer will plan to approach your session with banner (landscape) crops in mind.
They Have Compelling Work
They share examples of work. What you see on a website is our highlights reel. It’s ok for you to ask for a full album. If your photographer freaks out from that request, walk away. Fast.
They Won’t Surprise You
They’ll prepare you and you’ll know they’re 100% trustworthy by preparing you with tips, advice, visual cues and where and when to show up.
There’s Good Chemistry
They’ll click with you in all the right (albeit) professional ways. You won’t feel weird, talked down to, or patronized. Likewise, you’ll know you’re safe, comfortable, and the hero of the day.
They’ll Check In During and After the Session
They’ll show you teaser photos during your photo session to ensure you’re happy with what you’re seeing, will make corrections, and will not get defensive.
