THE PEOPLE of Tanzania

MaASAI Tribe AND THE LOCALS IN TANZANIA

Photographs feature fierce Maasai teens coming of age, the women who rule their bomas, and the locals who fight for a day’s wages in Tanzania.

The women are beautifully decked in handmade jewelry and colorful lesos. Earrings bedazzle their multiple piercings, and large, heavily-beaded necklaces adorn their necks. They exude confidence and pride.

It’s an existence of dichotomy. Maasai men live without electricity but listen to the radio.

It’s not uncommon to see a Maasai child at age six or seven herding a flock of goats for miles to find water.

Young Maasai teens must learn to live in the wild and survive off the land to earn the right to become men. They must kill a lion as a final test and training to prove they can protect their livestock.

Be as familiar with observation as you are with the place you live.
