Story Recommendation: The Tinder Swindler
Keeping a good story to myself would be so rude! So, I’m kicking off my first of a series of story recommendations.
If you’re like me, you have to limit binge-worthy shows and be a productive member of society (most days). This one, however, is worth carving out a full evening to watch.
Grab the popcorn; it’s a good one.
The Story: The Tinder Swindler
Where to Find It: Netflix
The Format: Documentary film, about 2 hours
The Synopsis: A wealthy, jet-setting diamond mogul woos women on Tinder and cons them out of millions of dollars. The victims rally for payback but…can they catch a man with no home as he courts his next victim?
Why I Like It: It’s hard not to judge the women in this documentary. At first, they seem like superficial gold-diggers who want a man for his money and social status. His jet-setting lifestyle is like a fairy tale, sweeping these princesses off their designer shoe-clad feet.
As story events unfold, however, the characters (victims) become more relatable. Can love really be so blind? It’s an incredibly complex web of love, psychology, addictions, revenge and injustice.
My Reflection: It’s easy to watch a story that recounts factual details, serious injustice, and predatory behavior in hindsight and say you’d never be that stupid. But you didn’t have a documentary to show you what a messed up situation you’d be in, did you?
Watch the documentary before you scroll through the latest news articles. The story isn’t over yet!
